Affiliate marketing is when you promote other people’s products and receive a commission for helping the product creator make a new sale. As an affiliate marketer, you usually don’t need any special training or start-up funding, and it’s a lot less stressful than trying to create unproven products on your own.
Your task as an affiliate marketer is to drum up traffic to the product owner’s sales page, where hopefully the people you direct there will find the offer attractive. The more targeted your traffic is to the benefits the product offers, the better your conversion rate will be, and the more in commissions you will earn.
There are many different products you can promote as an affiliate. You can become an affiliate of Amazon, for example, and earn commissions on anything they offer. You can sign up to be an affiliate on sites like ClickBank or PayDotCom and promote an endless supply of information products.
You can even become an affiliate promoting actions, called CPA offers. Here, you get paid anytime you direct traffic to an online offer where they take an action, such as filling out a survey or entering their email to obtain a free gift or coupon.
Affiliate marketing is a much less stressful form of online marketing, because you don’t have to worry about developing marketable ideas or creating winning products. You don’t have to deal with customer service follow-ups or feel the pressure to continually create more products for the marketplace.
Your job is much easier because the product creator really wants you to succeed. Most will provide you with a ready-made online marketing toolbox, which includes predefined emails, reviews, and banner ads to help you make the sale. Of course all of these will allow you to insert you own link embedded in them so you can get credit for your efforts.
How much can you realistically expect to earn as an affiliate marketer? There are really no fixed limits. You can market to one main niche, or take on multiple niches and work as much or as little as you want. Some very established affiliates can earn six figures or more, but even a beginner can sometimes earn enough to have a nice, modest, monthly income stream. So if you are new to online marketing and you find trying to create and market your own products a bit too stressful, take the pressure off yourself and find good affiliate offers to promote. Then focus your time on building a high-quality list of potential hungry buyers and feed them a continuous stream of beneficial products to help them meet their needs.
